EYES ON THE FIELD events use the BITZ digital tool to facilitate participatory, place-based, species-quests in various landscapes.
EYES ON THE FIELD: Porto was a farm visit and dinner event that explored the agricultural biodiversity of the Porto region, using all of the senses.
During the farm visit, participants went on species-quests: observing, identifying and making connections between the organisms that live there. Findings from the quests were transformed into a multi-course and multi-sensory dinner experience at Venn Canteen in Porto, Portugal that showcased this biodiversity.
The goal of EYES ON THE FIELD was to increase the number of humans who were noticing and caring for biodiversity on farms and in their food. On the farm visit, participants used a custom digital tool (BITZ) that suggests instructions and activities for looking, listening and identifying the organisms that populate the specific landscape we visited. The result of these quests was a snapshot of the ecological networks that support the production of food on the farm.
Two days later, the dinner activities and menu were inspired by the biodiversity found in the field during the workshop.
Eyes on the Field: Porto was a collaboration between Genomic Gastronomy, Nicetrails, Venn Canteen with Barney Pau, and Formiga Gloriosa and was supported by the E.U. S+T+ARTS MUSAE project.
